Power Supply

The Bunker’s primary data delivery centre is optimised for power via separate Mains Distribution Boards.  Cables run in EMP shielded ducts from the EMP vault where surge protection takes place.  The primary power supply is a dedicated subterranean supply direct from the national grid.  Mains supplies are capable of delivering in excess of 1500 watts per square metre.  For backup, two generators are capable of delivering in excess of a megawatt of power.  The centre also possesses five large bulk diesel tanks which have the capacity to store in excess of a quarter of a million litres of fuel.  UPS backup also provides systems power continuity in the event of failure or a transition to generator power - which are pre-heated and configured to autostart and take full load in less than one minute.

The Bunker’s secondary data delivery centre possesses a 415V three-phase supply that delivers 400 Amps per phase to the main switchgear.  Backup is provided by an auto start (pre heated) 650 kVA, three-phase 415V generator which will take a full electrical load within 20 seconds if required.  The generator is fuelled from a 1,700 litre daily use tank which is automatically replenished from a 25,000 litre bulk storage tank.  At full load, this enables the secondary centre to run for in excess of 40 days.  UPS systems also cover the transition from mains to generator power and is sufficient to run The Bunker for one hour.
